Lot 827
UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES, Pseudo-Imperial coinage. Late 3rd-early 4th centuries. 'Aureus' (Gold, 18 mm, 5.18 g, 12 h). IIIII II Laureate, draped and cuirassed imperial bust to left. Rev. IIIIIIII[...]IIIIII / IIIII Roma seated left, holding Victory in her right hand and long scepter in her left. With original suspension loop attached, but deformed and broken and the reverse weakly struck, otherwise, very fine.

From the Aurum Barbarorum Collection.

This piece is certainly among the most abstract imitations in the Aurum Barbarorum Collection. What at first glance appears to be a long beard on the obverse is in fact a highly stylized rendering of the drapery and cuirass of the imperial bust.
